Goal Setting: The SMART Way
Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision into reality. Goal setting helps you choose where you want to go in life! It will help you by knowing precisely what you want to achieve, where to concentrate your efforts, and how to get them done!
A useful way of making your goals more POWERFUL is to use the S.M.A.R.T. method.
- S- Specific (or Significant)
- M- Measurable (or Meaningful)
- A- Attainable (or Action-Oriented)
- R- Relevant (or Rewarding)
- T- Time-bound (or Trackable)
This is the method I have found to be the easiest way to help me complete the goals I would like to get done. I make mine as specific as I can, always put a deadline, and hang them somewhere I can look at them constantly (like your bathroom or kitchen)! Having a deadline is the most important for me so I can hold myself accountable for what I do and don’t complete.
First, create a “big picture” of what you want to achieve in a lifetime (or over the next 5-10 years). Then break these down into smaller targets (weeks, months, or years) that you must hit to reach your lifetime goals. Once you are done with that, knock those goals out one by one!!
